FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WAFF) –

An altercation at a Fayetteville game room turned deadly early Sunday morning. Police are still looking for the man suspected of killing a 19-year-old.

According to Fayetteville police, two men got into an argument his father’s entertainment complex on the 800 block of Main Street just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The fight continued outside of the building in the parking lot. While the two men were fighting outside, shots were fired.

Officials say Carlton Capone Caruth, 19, was found dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

A warrant has been issued for Michael Domonic Sales, 29, of Bedford County, for criminal homicide.

Caruth’s mother, Emily, said this isn’t the first time gun violence has affected her family. Her daughter was killed – and now, her son.

“Something has got to be done,” said Emily, fighting back tears. “Don’t just look at this as an African-American child gunned down. Look at this as your child gunned down. It can happen to your child, just like it has happened twice to [mine]… Senseless murders. Not only was he loved by his family and friends, he was loved by this community.”

Carlton’s cousin, Cainan Johnson, says they grew up together. He said there are a lot of things he will miss about his friend, but one thing more than others – his smile.

Cainan and Carlton were together when Carlton was shot.

“I just tried to pick him up… I said to myself, ‘No, somebody tell me no – he’s not dead,'” said Cainan.

Flowers and candles arranged in the shape of a heart marked the spot where Carlton Caruth died. Community members gathered there Sunday night to remember Carlton Caruth.

Emily Caruth hopes her son’s alleged killer will turn himself in.

“That’s the least you can do, after you gunned down my child like it was nothing,” she said.

“Pray for our family,” Emily added, “please pray for our family.”
