Nashville, Tenn — The backyard where Rosalyn Collier plays with her grandchildren is about to become a work site.Developers are bulldozing homes and building new ones all along her East Nashville street. The house Collier shares with her grandchildren for $450 a month is next.”Yes I’m afraid to death.  I don’t want to cry,” said Collier.Collier’s landlord initially gave her an notice to vacate by the end of this month but he extended it to September 31st and gave her $650 to help.Still the disabled grandmother hasn’t found anything affordable and time may not be on her side to qualify for and find Section 8 housing.Providers like Urban Housing Solutions say she may really need more than two months.”Most wait lists are similar to ours and it’s at least two months if not four before we can move someone in,” said Adam Graham with Urban Housing Solutions.Graham says Collier’s story is becoming more common. The number of affordable housing options has decreased in Nashville partially because landlords may be able to make much more renting to non Section-8 tenants. That leaves more “It City” casualties like Collier.”You never think this would happen to you and I’ve been trying to get help everywhere but I don’t know what to do,” said Collier. One possibility may have arisen Tuesday night.Neighbor’s concerned about Collier’s situation set up this GoFundMe page http://www.gofundme.com/than9k82
