ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) – The Alcoa Police Department, approximately 17 miles south of Knoxville, is looking for two suspects who stole a purse and credit card from a woman in Alcoa on the Fourth of July after she tried to fight them off.

Police said it happened in the Kroger parking lot off Hall Road around 11:40 p.m. The victim, Lynda Hall, was transported to Blount Memorial Hospital after the robbers ran over her foot while making their get-away.

“They ought to be ashamed of themselves,” said Hall.

She was unloading her shopping cart with her son when police said a boy between the age of 10 and 15, with brown hair and a blue shirt, started talking to her in the parking lot. While the boy distracted Hall, officers said an orange PT Cruiser, driven by a white female between the age of 25 to 35, pulled up to her vehicle and opened a rear passenger door adjacent to Hall’s vehicle.

“We wrestled over the purse and then my foot got run over and I had to let go,” said Hall.

Surveillance video shows the boy grabbing Hall’s purse and trying to jump in the orange PT Cruiser, but despite being disabled, police said Hall fought back. The boy who grabbed the purse fell out of the orange PT Cruiser, but when the car ran over Hall’s foot she fell to her knees and the boy was able to leap back in the car as it drove away.

On Saturday, July 5, officers said Hall’s credit card was used in Blount County. The incident was also caught on surveillance video.

Police said people should always be on high alert when out and about.

“You just need to be aware of your surroundings, be cognizant of what’s going on around you at all times, if you’ve got young children around you,” said Det. Kris Sanders with the Alcoa Police Department. “When you walk into a parking lot there’s a lot of different hazards that play. You just want to kind of be mindful of whats going on, pay attention to your surroundings, like I said, and report and suspicious activity that you see to the police department or local authorities in whatever area that you’re in.”

Sanders added that people should also just let go in this type of situation. Don’t fight for it.

Anyone with information should call the Alcoa Police Department at 865-380-4715. Anonymous tips can be submitted online or by calling the Crime Hot Line at 865-380-4714.
