NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Tennessee’s Sales Tax Holiday starts on August 7, but some Middle Tennessee shoppers took advantage of tax-free clothes and shoes at the Goodwill store in Madison on Sunday morning.

Frequent shopper Talina Whitaker spent Sunday morning shopping at the Madison Goodwill with her daughter Chasity.

“I have three children that are in school, and we’re shopping for back to school clothes, because as usual they have outgrown everything from last year,” said Whitaker.

Chasity Whitaker, a rising freshman at Hunter’s Lane High School, was shopping for clothing that fit the school’s dress code.  Chasity said the school requires students to where solid color shirts: blue, orange or white only.

Talina said, “This is an every year thing.  Usually I can spend between 20 and 40 dollars and get them enough to last them for the rest of the school year.”

For those not shopping for back to school items and able to donate to Goodwill, Martin reiterated that the non-profit depends on donations from the public.  She said stores were in need of two specific items.   “Goodwill relies on donated goods in order to support the mission of Goodwill, which is providing job training and job placement for people who have trouble finding or keeping work.  We’re really looking for those donations, especially books and shoes right now.”
