RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Social media is flooded with comments from concerned parents over what they found in their kids’ baby wipes.

There are reports of tiny shards of glass in the wipes.

Huggies said it does not use glass in the making of its wipes, but it is investigating the reports.

The company says it believes the glass shards reported are likely melted fibers of the wipe material used in the manufacturing process of the product.

Still, messages of concern are spreading quickly among parents.

“Something has to be done,” said Aspen Patterson, a mother of two in New Mexico.

After hearing about the reports from her friends, Patterson said she checked her wipes and found what everyone else had been talking about.

In fact, she said her son has had a rash ever since she started using the wipes on him last month.

“We use the natural care one, so it should be natural stuff,” Patterson said.

Huggies explained on its website that the company makes its products by combining a blend of fibers.

The company said, “Rarely, but on occasion, when those fibers combine together while being formed, they create a shiny particle.”

No matter what it is, Patterson does not believe it is good for her kids.

“It is supposed to be soft fibers. There should be not anything hard in there,” Patterson said.

On Facebook, Huggies has been responding individually to most of the hundreds of people commenting online.

It also posted a statement to Facebook on Friday saying it has a long history of safe use and it has strict quality controls in place for its products.
Patterson said she plans to file a complaint.

“We have a doctor’s appointment,” she said. “I’m just holding on to them and trying to get a hold of Huggies.”

Huggies says it will not recall the product because it believes it is not dangerous.

Huggies has set up a special phone number for people with questions on this issue: 1-888-485-6839

The company also created a FAQ page on its website, saying it takes any concern about the products very seriously.
