LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WJLA) — A community college in Louisville, Kentucky was briefly locked down on Friday afternoon following a report of a loud sound that a 911 caller believed could have been gunfire.

A Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman told reporters police received a call around 3:30 p.m. regarding a possible “active aggressor” at Jefferson Community and Technical College and “possibly a loud boom, shots fired.

“Police and eight other agencies responded to the scene searching for a potential shooter.”Officers did secure the building around 4:15 this afternoon. There was nothing found,” the spokesman said. “We were very grateful for that.”

A small day care center in one campus building was evacuated.

Jefferson Community and Technical College posted on Facebook during the lock down: “We are currently in lock down due to a report of violent incident on our technical campus. Please stay away from campus at this time and continue to be in lockdown if you are on the technical campus.

“The police spokesman said it was too soon to tell whether the call was “fake” but he praised the efficient response by dispatchers and officers.

The school confirmed on Facebook at 4:23 p.m. that the emergency situation was over: “The all clear has been given for our Technical Campus and the lock down has been lifted.”
