NASHVILLE, Tenn.– A Nashville man has been charged with child abuse and aggravated assault after hitting his girlfriend and a six-month-old baby in the face.

According to police, Jose Santiago Resendiz-Arreola had been drinking heavily at a Piccadilly Row residence when he tried to handle the child. The woman took the child away from Resendiz-Arreola due to his intoxication and that is when he allegedly struck her in the face “multiple times.

” In the process, he also hit the baby on the right side of the face.

When the woman went to call police, Resendiz-Arreola “grabbed a box cutter and held it to the victim’s neck and told her he would kill her if she called the police.” He took the phone and destroyed it but the woman’s roomates were able to call police.

Resendiz-Arreola left before police arrived but returned again after the scene was cleared and started throwing rocks at the woman’s window trying to get her to come outside. Police responded a second time and were able to arrest him.
