Stray bullet in Mt. Juliet

MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) – Mt. Juliet police said Tuesday night a stray bullet landed within feet of a mother and her 2-year-old while the child was riding a tricycle in the driveway of their home on Monday.

Police are investigating after the 3:45 p.m. incident in the 1800 block of Wiltshire Drive.

The mother said while watching her child, she heard a distant gunshot and saw an object strike a nearby power line before it landed in her driveway mere feet away.

Authorities said the object was then determined to be a bullet commonly used in a handgun.

It’s believed the stray bullet came from recreational shooting or an accidental discharge at a lengthy distance away from the Wiltshire Drive home.

However, police added shooting or firing a projectile is prohibited by Mt. Juliet city codes.

Police encourage residents to report if they hear loud gunshots near their homes so the location can be investigated.

Anyone with any information regarding the stray bullet incident is encouraged to call the Mt. Juliet Police Department at 615-754-2550.
