NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A handcuffed man has escaped in Nashville from a Wayne County sheriff’s deputy.

It happened just before 5 p.m. in the 400 block of Harding Place.

Antwan Churchwell of Hermitage was being taken from Davidson County Correctional Complex to Wayne County for a misdemeanor probation violation warrant.

Churchwell told the deputy he needed to use the restroom, so they stopped at a convenience store.

Police said Churchwell then ran as they were walking out of the market. He was last seen around Harding Place Condominiums.

The man’s hands were cuffed in front of his body. Police said he is wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and brown boots.

He was on probation violation from Wayne County on criminal trespassing, theft and resisting arrest charges.

Nashville police arrested him on Nov. 30 for domestic assault, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.

Churchwell received a 30-day sentence after being convicted of the resisting charge on Dec. 10.
