NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Tests revealed there was diesel fuel in unleaded gas pumps at MAPCO stations after the company and state received complaints of complications from customers after they filled up their cars.
The issue came to light Tuesday when MAPCO voluntary shut down four local gas stations and called investigators with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to take samples.
“Our issuance of a stop-sale is just a step in this process. MAPCO has been proactive in trying to minimize the impact of any potential problem,” said Corinne Gould, Director of Communications.
The samples were tested Wednesday, when it was revealed by ag officials the unleaded pumps contained diesel fuel.
The gas stations affected are located at 2099 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard in Clarksville, 240 Highway 109 in Lebanon, 3043 Nolensville Pike in Nashville, and 3900 Lebanon Road, also in Nashville.
They all remain closed for the time being.
The Department of Agriculture said the Clarksville station has received 7 complaints, the Lebanon station also received 7, and the Nashville location has only received one.
MAPCO says customers should call 1-855-469-6272 to file a complaint with them.
The state is also asking anyone concerned with their fuel quality file a formal complaint with them at 1-800-OCTANE1.

Owner Steve Bass says it’s not as common as you might think.
“A lot of times gas will get the blame for a car not running well but it is rare that you see that these days,” said Bass.
But if it does happen, you’ll know very quickly. The first sign will be the check engine light.
“Once they put the fuel in there within the first few miles they’ll notice the car spinning and sputtering and not running quite as well as it should so it’s a good indication if they’ve just filled up and that occurs that’s a good indication there could be water in the fuel system,” he told News 2.
Bass says it can damage the fuel pump and the fuel filters but it rarely causes engine damage.
While bad gas probably won’t do long term damage to your car you could end up with a big repair bill.
If your car doesn’t run well immediately after filling up, take it to a professional to get it checked out.
