According to the Marine Corps Times, the four Marines killed in the Chattanooga shootings could potentially be denied the Purple Heart if the FBI does not classify the attack as having ties to a terrorist organization.

The report states the Marine Corps have prepared “Purple Heart award packages” for the Marines but are awaiting FBI classification before the packages can be submitted.

He also told the Washington Times new legislation could be needed to make sure the Chattanooga victims are eligible.
