NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 31-year-old Murfreesboro woman was indicted by a grand jury this week after police say she attempted to self-abort her pregnancy in a bathtub.

Anna Yocca was indicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder and booked into the Rutherford County jail on Wednesday.

According to an incident report by the Murfreesboro Police Department, they were called to Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville this past September.

There, police say they learned Yocca filled a bathtub with warm water before using a coat hanger to abort her own fetus. She was 24 weeks pregnant.

Due to the amount of blood, she reportedly became alarmed. Her boyfriend took her to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital and she was transported to Saint Thomas Midtown.

Police say doctors were able to save “Baby Yocca,” who weighed 1.5 pounds at birth.

Doctors reportedly told authorities the baby boy’s quality of life “will be forever harmed.” He will need a medical foster, have to stay on oxygen and require daily medication.

Yocca is accused of causing medical issues to the child’s lungs, eyes and heart with the hanger. Doctors said other medical issues will arise as he gets older, according to police.
