NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee statesman is laid to rest.
About 400 people attended The service at War Memorial Auditorium on Friday.
Thompson served eight years as a US senator.
His booming voice and larger than life stature helped launch a successful acting acting and often got him mistaken for a popular Tennessee football coach. Despite his success in politics and Hollywood, friends say Thompson never lost his easy going nature, sense of humor and small town values.
A memorial service and private burial service were held in Thompson’s hometown of Lawrenceburg following the funeral.
