Chattanooga shooting victim Randall Smith’s Escorted Nashville to Chattanooga via I-24


Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith will be escorted from Nashville to Chattanooga this evening via I-24. TN Highway Patrol stated that they plan on being by Exit 97 by 7:00pm. Use that time to determine when they will pass by an over pass near you. Please be safe when showing your support, bring flags if you have them.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The remains of Chattanooga shooting victim, Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, are scheduled to arrive in Nashville early Friday evening.

The 26-year-old initially survived the July 16 shooting that killed four Marines. He died two days later from his injuries.

Smith will arrive to Nashville from Dover, Delaware, where he was dressed and prepared for his funeral, around 6 p.m. Friday.

Smith’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at the First Baptist Church at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia where he and his family lived.

Members of the U.S. Navy who had previously served with Randall will be active and honorary pallbearers during his funeral.

He will then be buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full honors.

As Smith’s remains travel through Tennessee, law enforcement and other emergency responders will be posted at every overpass in Rutherford County to salute his procession.

At the time of his untimely death, according to his obituary, Smith was enrolled at Ashford University where he was on the Dean’s List and working on a degree in hospital administration.

Smith leaves behind a wife and three young daughters.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking memorial contributions be made to the Capital Bank beneficiary account for Randall Smith at P.O. Box 2146, For Oglethorpe, Georgia, 30742.

The fund will be used as an educational trust for his daughters.
