MANCHESTER, TN (WSMV) –
Police in Manchester, Tennessee are being credited with arresting the man and woman accused of committing a robbery that turned fatal down in Georgia.
Authorities in Georgia confirm 27-year-old Brandon Shawn Smith and 37-year-old Stephanie Marie Rodriguez were taken into custody by Manchester officers Saturday night.
They’re facing charges, including murder and robbery, in connection with an incident in the parking lot of a Covington, Georgia Walmart.
The incident was captured on surveillance video.
The video shows a man walk up to 65-year old Marsha Johnson in an attempt to grab her purse. During the struggle, she falls to the ground. The video then shows the suspect get into Johnson’s car and drive over her several times, killing her.
Outside of surveillance footage, a witness was able to provide police with descriptions for a detailed sketch.
Police say Smith and Rodriguez were spotted in Chattanooga on Friday, before being found in Manchester.
It’s not known where they were headed. Covington police say Smith is originally from Virginia and Rodriguez from New Mexico.
It’s also unclear when they’ll be returned to Georgia.
