New Year’s Eve Bash on Broadway expected to draw 150,000 downtown

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The 7th annual New Year’s Eve Bash on Broadway is expected to draw more than 150,000 people to Lower Broad Thursday night.

This year’s event will feature two stages, seven bands, the music note drop and Nashville’s longest fireworks show for a New Year’s Eve celebration. Click here for event map.

The 2016 music note is made of 425 light bulbs and will drop from a 145-foot tower. As it falls, an estimated 200 pounds of confetti will shower down on revelers at the stroke of midnight.

News 2 will air the note drop both on TV and online at as well as part of the fireworks display. It begins a little before midnight and ends shortly after.

Country music singer Kelsea Ballerini and mascots GNASH and T-RAC will join Mayor Barry to raise the music note.

Music is set to begin at 6 p.m. and continue past midnight.

Nashville-based rock group Kings of Leon is headlining the concert and will take the stage at 10:55 p.m.

“When you have arguably the biggest rock band in the world playing before a hometown crowd, they’re going to do it right and people are going to come from all over the world to Nashville for New Year’s Eve,” said Butch Spyridon, the CEO of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation.

CMA Award winner Chris Stapleton, CMA Awardnominated Kelsea Ballerini, Sugar & The Hi-Lows, The Whigs, Wild Cub and LANco are scheduled to perform at the event’s two stages.

The new Music City stage is located on Broadway in between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. It faces the Jack Daniel’s Stage, which will continue to serve as the main stage at First Avenue and Broadway.

And if you want to go downtown with your family, there is plenty to do before the big countdown at midnight. A mini-ice skating rink set up next to Bridgestone Arena and food trucks will line Lower Broad to feed the celebrating masses.

“On New Year’s Eve, we will have 18 Nashville Food Association trucks that are going to come in and keep everybody fed,” said Dallas Shaw with Hoss’ Loaded Burgers.

Personal cameras, handheld umbrellas and small bags and backpacks are permitted at the event. The list of prohibited items includes chairs, coolers, drones or other remote-controlled aerial devices and unauthorized personal transport devices.
