NASHVILLE, Tenn. (by Kai Beech)–Michael Holmes says the robbery-turned-gunfight at his neighbor’s house still rings in his ears.
“Pop! Pop!,” he said. “Two pops is all I heard.”

It happened at a mobile home on Childress St. in Springfield early Tuesday morning.

“I woke up and wondered if that was what I really heard,” Holmes said.

Part of what Holmes heard was his neighbor–the man being robbed–fighting back. The victim says three young men robbed him just a few days Tuesday incident. So when three bad guys came back to his house dressed in all black and wearing masks—he was armed with a gun.

“So (the victim) had a gun, fired at them and hit one in the shoulder,” Holmes said.

A short time later, Springfield Police got a call from a local hospital that 18-year-old Dre’an Witherspoon had a bullet wound near the shoulder. He’s now a person of interest in the case.

A few hours later, police arrested Darius Hyde and Desmon Williams for drugs and armed robbery in separate cases.
Police say there have been at least 25 armed robberies in Springfield in the last year and they believe Hyde, Williams and Witherspoon are part of a crew responsible for some of those crimes.

Christian Gonzalez lives a few doors up from this most recent robbery. His family is also victims of armed robbery.

“I think they had a revolver; they pointed it at one of my brothers,” Gonzalez said about the experience.

Fed up and scared for their lives, the Gonzalez family is now moving out of the area.

“There’s been crime and we don’t want to deal with it,” he said. “So we decided to just leave this place.”
